Laarni was studying for her accountancy qualification with her friend in the Philippines when they decided to contact Think Global Recruitment. Now enjoying her new home in the vibrant city of Bristol, we caught up with her to find out what she thinks of her new life abroad.
Why did you originally decide to move overseas?
“Throughout my studies, my best friend and I, who was also assisted by Think Global Recruitment, always planned to move abroad to improve our CVs and get more opportunities. I had heard good things about Think Global Recruitment so I decided to register and find out what was available.
Did you have any concerns with moving overseas?
“Obviously, I knew I would be leaving my family which was a concern, but one that I had rationalised. This was my second move internationally, so I knew what to expect.”
When you arrived in your location how long did it take you to settle in?
“I settled in very quickly. I was moving with a friend, so there were no real issues. I found a flat in advance of arriving in Bristol so I was pretty settled by the time I got there.”
Did you move meet your original expectations and how?
“I love Bristol! I’m learning lots with my firm who are training me well in their methodologies. I wanted Big 4 in the UK, so I’m really enjoying my life here in Bristol.”
What was the biggest benefit of moving?
“Financially and experience-wise, I know I am benefitting hugely. I feel more confident and stronger in character. People in the UK are very friendly and welcoming.”
Did you feel that your move improved your standard of living?
“Yes, I am earning enough to live, save and send home to my parents to help put my sister through architect school.”
What were the highlights of your location?
“Bristol is a gorgeous city, I feel safe and settled, the people are friendly and I can easily travel from there to other parts of the UK. I can walk to work which is unheard of in the Philippines and which further improves the standard of living.”
What, in your opinion, are the advantages of working overseas?
“Improving your CV, gaining self-reliance, learning new methodologies, experiencing new cultures, meeting new people and financial benefits.”
What advice would you offer to Accountants thinking about working overseas?
“Don’t have any hesitation, do it!”
What are the advantages of applying for a job through Think Global Recruitment?
“The history and proven expertise over years of helping accountants make international moves. You also have great contacts and a real nurturing support of individuals.”
Do you believe the original move you made with Think Global Recruitment has enhanced your career?
“Very much so. I have managed to get fantastic experience and at the same time really enjoy my time in the UK.”
