2016 – A year of improving the lives of others

Here at Think Global Recruitment, we are feeling a bit nostalgic (about the last year). As a new one begins we look back on 2016, a year where the team put even more of a focus on improving the lives of others, raising money for some very worthwhile causes.

As a business, we take corporate social responsibility very seriously. Throughout 2016, we have supported a number of fantastic charities from countries in the Philippines (Fairplay for All) and Zambia (Old Macdonald’s Farm) to recognised names in the UK (Marie Curie & Teenage Cancer Trust) and a couple that are even closer to home (Vintage Vibes & Social Bite). Raising awareness & supporting these charities allows them to continue the great work they do and fulfill their missions to improve the lives of people who need their help.

Some people may remember 2016 as a year of sad news but we want to look back on the things we achieved to help make people’s lives a little bit better!

Charity Horse Racing Night!

This fundraiser got the whole team, families and friends together for a night of fun! The night was in aid of both Marie Curie’s Hospice in Edinburgh, and to FairPlay for All, a charity based in the Philippines that helps some of the poorest children in the country escape poverty through education & sport. The night’s events and auction managed to raise a fantastic £1025 for our two charities!

thank-you-1

We recently received some heartwarming pictures from the children over at Fairplay for All. These photos remind us of how important and worthwhile our charitable work is and how much of an impact can be made to help improve the lives of those in need, even from the otherside of the world!

Spooktacular Pub Quiz!

In October, we hosted the spookiest of pub quizzes in aid of Old MacDonald’s Farm, who provide a home, a community school and a teaching farm for vulnerable children in Zambia and Vintage Vibes, a charity which helps elderly people in Edinburgh who are feeling isolated and lonely by buddying them up with a volunteer. Our pub quiz was a spooktacular success and separated the Frankensteins and his monsters in Think Global Recrutiment.

With the sale of both raffle tickets and quiz tickets, we managed to raise an amazing £640 to split between our two charities!

Bake Sale and Auction!

We went all out for this charity auction – with a little help from the lads in Oasis! An auctioned off Oasis vinyl & book signed by both Noel & Liam Gallagher we were able to raise an incredible £500! We also managed to raise a further £200 with the sale of lots of sweet treats, baked by our very own in-house British Bake Off-ers!img_8275

The chosen charity, Teenage Cancer Trust, was suggested by Noel Gallagher himself! The money raised will help the charity to continue the invaluable work they do, supporting both patients and their families through the toughest times of their lives.

CEO Sleep Out!

In December, our own Managing Director, Abigail Stevens, braved the cold and spent a night out in her sleeping bag in St Andrews Square! This event was the first time business leaders of Scotland took part to experience for one night what the homeless community go through on a daily basis.
Abigail managed to raise an amazing £1,398 for the Homeless Village Project which has been set up by Social Bite, to offer a full homeless solution to people who find themselves sleeping rough.

So there you have it, folks! 2016 wasn’t all doom and gloom! It’s important to remember the role that we can play, as businesses and as individuals, in making a positive impact and improving the lives of others. And to 2017, here’s looking at you kid!
